As our Carers Support, Advice and Information Coordinator, you will play a key role in delivering a vital service on behalf of Reading Borough Council, helping carers access the support they need while ensuring Age UK Reading continues to provide a high-quality, responsive and impactful service. You will work as a member of the Carer's Partnership alongside 3 other local charities. Providing information and guidance, coordinating carers' assessments, running a support group and helping to identify people who may not yet recognise themselves as carers. Combining compassion, organisation and problem-solving skills, you will make a meaningful difference to the lives of local carers while helping to strengthen support for carers across Reading.

Key details

• Contract: 1-year fixed-term, with potential to extend. 3-month probationary period.

What you’ll do

• Act as the first point of contact for volunteering enquiries, manage applications, conduct interviews, and manage references and onboarding requirements
• Build and maintain effective partnerships and referral pathways with organisations, universities and community groups, including including universities, faith organisations and community groups across East London.
•  Ensure all volunteers complete appropriate DBS checks, Volunteer Agreements and any other required safeguarding processes.
•  Deliver volunteer inductions and provide practical training, supporting the learning, development and wellbeing of volunteers, and identifying any further training needs as they arise.
•  Network and conduct desk research to identify wellbeing, learning and CPD opportunities for volunteers, particularly those with lived experience of migration or seeking sanctuary.
• Administer volunteer travel expenses and maintain accurate records on shared systems.
• Attend sessions regularly alongside volunteers to build relationships, provide support and understand their experiences.
•  Maintain regular communication with volunteers and respond promptly to questions and concerns.
•  Organise volunteer thank-you events and other opportunities to recognise and celebrate their contributions.
•  Monitor and report on volunteer numbers, recruitment, retention, successes and challenges.
•  Attend relevant staff meetings as required.
• Report safeguarding concerns immediately and follow organisational safeguarding procedures.

The ideal candidate will have experience of influencing policy in health, education or social care, with a proven track record in lobbying or campaigning at local or national level. Your role
We’re looking for a Fundraising Manager to take our individual, community and corporate fundraising to the next level. Over recent years, the Foodbank has developed a “More Than a Foodbank” model, recognising that food insecurity rarely exists in isolation and that many people accessing support are also experiencing poor mental health, debt, housing insecurity, social isolation and wider practical challenges.

Alongside emergency food provision, the Foodbank has developed strong partnership working with Citizens Advice St Albans District, local mental health organisations, statutory services and community groups to create a more joined-up and person-centred support model.

The Reaching Communities partnership between St Albans & District Foodbank, Citizens Advice and Hertfordshire Mind Network aims to provide integrated practical, emotional and wellbeing support within trusted community settings. The partnership focuses on early intervention, reducing repeat crisis, improving access to support and helping people navigate systems before situations escalate further.

About the Role

The Outreach Worker role is intended to feel fully embedded within the Foodbank environment and wider Foodbank Plus model, working relationally and practically alongside the Wellbeing Team, volunteers and partner organisations to support people experiencing hardship and complex life circumstances.

The purpose of the Hertfordshire Mind Network Community Outreach Worker role is to:

• Expand employment, health and wellbeing, and community engagement
• Strengthen existing service provision for financial advice, food security, and homelessness support.
• Build strong local partnerships, volunteer networks, and stakeholder relationships.
• Deliver measurable outcomes for residents, with a focus on those experiencing deprivation and marginalisation.
• To provide advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients with coexisting drug and alcohol difficulties, mental ill-health, these will be clients who are presenting to the police, anti-social behaviour, tenancy enforcement, housing and environmental health services within Hertfordshire.
• To ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• Embed a person centred and solution focused approach in all aspects of the role.
• To raise greater awareness of complex needs and the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) amongst local service providers. Supporting them to gain confidence in working positively and consistently with people who have multiple needs.

We are looking for a dedicated team to deliver person centred and bespoke trauma informed support to vulnerable women in Luton. This service will provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for women facing sexual exploitation and substance dependency – a place they can truly call home. Through stable, person-centred care, you'll play a vital role in empowering women to rebuild their lives and embrace brighter futures. 

In this role, as a Support Mentor, you will work within a 24 hour service which provided person centred support to our residents, working to ensure the safety and wellbeing. Our residents have experienced multiple forms of exclusion, such as historical/ongoing abuse, involvement in the criminal justice system, mental health challenges, drug and/or alcohol dependency and enduring high levels of violence and coercion. You will build trusting professional relationships with residents, helping them to achieve their goals and aspirations which could be through tailored one to one sessions, group sessions, in and out of service activities, and general wellbeing check ins. Your role will focus on empowering our residents to take control over their lives and meet their personal goals

 Responsibilities Include:

• Holding a caseload, conducting key work sessions which are personable to resident needs
• Carry out regular welfare checks, safeguarding checks, and general living checks
• Encourage residents to take part in activities and events both within the service and the community
• Keep support plans up to date on a regular basis
• Work closely with the rest of the team to provide overall excellent service delivery, this may mean also supporting with their caseloads, and other tasks as necessary

Our holiday and weekend activities give parents and carers a break while providing participants with a safe, welcoming space to have fun and receive the care they need. Our coordinators plan, arrange and deliver a programme of activities shaped around the needs of the young people, making the most of local opportunities, from heritage sites and outdoor adventures, to sports, arts and crafts, cooking, and team challenges. These sessions help children build friendships, grow in confidence, and express themselves in a fun, supportive space.

Family day activities bring families together to create special memories and enjoy time with others who share similar experiences. Coordinators develop and facilitate activity days which involve the whole family and provide opportunities to build friendships and connections with others. Activities take place at outdoor centres, local heritage sites and museums, as well as organised beach days and community centre-based workshops and activities.

Applicants should have relevant experience of working or volunteering with children and young people in education, health or social care, and have exceptional organisational and communication skills. 

Full and part-time positions available, and coordinators are required to work most Saturdays.  In school holiday periods, more activities take place on weekdays (instead of Saturdays), so flexibility is needed. Activities are delivered across Kent, so some travel is required.

Free From Harm is our training programme on obstetric violence, birth trauma, informed consent, respectful maternity care and rights-based practice. It supports maternity professionals and related practitioners to recognise harm in perinatal care, understand how discrimination and power shape people's experiences, and strengthen safer, more respectful and more accountable practice.

The opportunity

As Free From Harm grows, we are building a pool of trusted freelance facilitators to co-deliver the programme to participant groups across England.

This is a self-employed contractor opportunity, offered on an assignment-by-assignment basis from August 2026. The day rate is £250. In addition, facilitators may earn affiliate commission of 20% of the relevant booking value where a booking is directly attributable to them through an agreed referral or sales route. This gives facilitators with existing networks in maternity, midwifery, NHS, public health or related sectors the opportunity to increase their earnings beyond the day rate. Any commission arrangement will be confirmed in writing.

Joining the pool does not guarantee minimum work or continuing engagement. Each assignment will be agreed in advance, including dates, location, preparation expectations and fees.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for facilitators who can hold complex, emotionally honest and sometimes challenging conversations with care, clarity and courage.

You may have come to this work through facilitation, maternity advocacy, midwifery, doula work, clinical education, community organising, activism, public health, reproductive rights, lived experience or another route entirely.

We are especially interested in people who bring:

• Knowledge of obstetric violence, birth trauma, informed consent and respectful maternity care
• Understanding of trauma-informed practice and psychological safety in group settings
• A genuine anti-racist, anti-discrimination and intersectional approach
• Experience facilitating groups where difficult, activating or sensitive material arises
• Confidence naming harm, power, coercion and structural causes clearly and directly
• Co-facilitation experience, including joint planning, delivery and debrief

You do not need to have followed a traditional professional route. We value lived experience, community knowledge, advocacy and activism alongside formal training and professional experience.

Role Overview

In this role you will be responsible for office management and administrative support across Pembroke House’s work, from supporting governance functions, to leading on Hall Hire bookings and supporting programmes in our buildings and in the wider neighbourhood. 

You will be passionate about delivering and improving our processes to streamline our work, and enjoy bringing your skills in organisation and process management to a vibrant team. You will be comfortable multi-tasking and shifting priorities when needed on tasks such as answering the phone, ordering supplies, organising the logistical details of room hire and supporting the delivery of events.

Person Specification

The person we appoint to this role will have a passion for organisation and the smooth management of processes. You will enjoy working with a range of people including residents of all ages and backgrounds.  As a member of a small and enterprising team you will also be ready to muck-in to support others as required.

You will be able to manage competing demands on your time as you will be working in a fast-paced office environment. You will have an eye for detail, the drive to see tasks through to completion and be confident working unsupervised for some of the time. 

You will take on responsibility for ensuring that hall hirers get what they are expecting, and must be confident and able to be firm when you know we are unable to fulfil a request. In addition you will oversee the Pembroke Academy of Music, ensuring that it continues to be an efficient and joyful programme. 

If this role is done well you will embed a solid foundation from which our work can flourish. You will be a key external voice and face of Pembroke House and will sit at the heart of a dynamic team, ensuring that visitors are welcomed, enquiries are dealt with efficiently and that information flows effectively through the organisation.
